ICEAGE maintains the following e-Learning services:

Iceage Digital Library [outlink] is a shared repository of educational materials connected with Grid computing. The library is regularly populated with educational resources developed and used within the ICEAGE project. Its scope, however, reaches far beyond servicing a single project. The library currently consists of more than 7500 educational resources (approximately 1500 came from ICEAGE project) and is being regularly used both by ICEAGE and other Grid projects throughout the world.

The ICEAGE Grid People Registry provides a database of information about people involved in Grids. It supports:

  • Providing a persistent record of a person's personal details which can be re-used in registering for events
  • Recording certifications of a person having achieved something, such as:
    • having completed some educational course or event
    • having successfully completed some assessment exercise
    • having obtained some professional certification
    • Enabling search for persons meeting particular requirements, e.g. in searching for presenters/trainers in a particular grid-related domain.

The International Winter School in Grid Computing is an annual online learning event for enthusiastic and ambitious researchers who have recently started or are about to start working on Grid projects. Comparable in commitment and scope with the famous International Summer School for Grid Computing (ISSGC) [outlink] , the International Winter School in Grid Computing provides a unique online educational opportunity in international Grid community. Rigorous both in admission requirements and expected work commitment, IWSGC retains the majority of learner benefits from ISSGC while offering a high degree of flexibility (see Why e-Learning?).

GILDA (Grid INFN Laboratory for Dissemination Activities) is a virtual laboratory to demonstrate/disseminate the capabilities of grid computing as well as to train new users/system administrators willing to start their grid experiences on gLite and other middlewares.

The laboratory is currently formed by several grid sites (currently a dozen, managed on voluntary basis), central grid services, and a series of facilities which helps users to get started with grid understanding and use.

Because of this consolidated infrastructure, it has been chosen by several EU-related projects as the infrastructure to carry out training activities. Taking into account the requirements of ICEAGE, GILDA also supports several other middlewares besides gLite (currently GT4, OMII-UK, and UNICORE).
