I'm a German PhD student and I attended the International Summer School
on Grid Computing 2006. I highly recommend this to everybody who is working
or starts to work in the area of Grid Computing. The talks are outstanding
and the organisation and technical infrastructure supports the students
perfectly. Grid Computing is a sophisticated research field and the Summer
School gives a theoretical and practical overview which was an immeasurable
help for me being at the beginning of my PhD project.
Additionally, there is always the chance for socialising in the breaks,
at the meals and at several events which are offered. I was enabled to
forge links with other universities working on similar topics like I
do and established contact to a PhD student with whom I intend to publish a
paper.
Furthermore I got to know two research associates in the first two
days who are working on nearly the same topic providing only different
tools in a grid portal. We worked out some interesting strategies for
continuing our work and started an international collaboration. This led
to a research visit and pushed my PhD project extremely forward. The stay
itself led again to more beneficial contacts.
Without being at the Summer School my approach for finishing the
first steps of my PhD project wouldn't be as far as they are and I
wouldn't have had the pleasure of doing an international research
visit already at this point of time.
